The Fisherman
The Coast
Congratulations to Ben for winning the Fisherman Cuisinternship!
Ben will take in the drama of the Oregon Coast from the deck of a charter fishing boat. Under the mentorship of Skipper Lars Robison, go one-on-one with the creatures this part of the Pacific Ocean is famous for. From nabbing a fat, juicy Dungeness crab or a Coho salmon to sighting a 35-ton whale, every day will be an adventure at sea. Use your land legs for world-class golf, beachcombing and sitting down to dinner.
The Coast
A day at the beach is a whole lot more than a stroll on the sand or watching the whales head south. Savor the aroma of toasting grains at one of the many microbreweries up and down the coast, head out to the dock to snag a fresh Dungeness Crab, or just grab a window table and watch the waves roll in.

Lars Robison / Dockside Charters
Depoe Bay, Oregon
The fishing in Lars Robison’s blood was passed from his father, who started the family business in the early 1930s, rowing clients around Siletz bay in search of lunkers and Dungeness crab. Cost of an outing back then, lunch not included: a nickel a day. His parents later operated Oregon’s largest sport fishing company, running a dozen boats out of Depoe Bay from 1956 to 1976.
After attending school on the Oregon Coast, Lars earned his skippers license at 18 and bought his first charter boat, which he operated for 10 years. He also cut his skippers teeth by spending a few winters and springs in Alaska, where he worked on crab and halibut boats.
Lars started Dockside Charters in the 1980s and now operates both 45-foot and 50-foot charters. Weather permitting, you’ll find Lars in his favorite place: out on the open sea in search of Salmon, rockfish, and the occasional migrating whale.
